Rage

This is ‘La colère’ by the influential French artist and thinker Charles Le Brun, who held the position of ‘First Painter’ to King Louis XIV of France. The term ‘colère’ is usually translated as ‘rage’ or ‘anger’; this image was made in the 18th century and is based on one made by Le Brun in the 1680s. Read more about varieties of rage, revenge, and wrath on the Emotions Lab “anger” page.
