Terror

This etching comes from Charles Darwin’s chapter on ‘Surprise – Astonishment – Fear – Horror’ and is based on a photograph by Dr Guillaume Duchenne. Darwin labels this image ‘Terror’. The original photograph was slightly different as it showed the electrodes being attached to the unfortunate subject’s face to get it to make this expression!
